Fuel Hose - Replace
I had no idea about the next repair I was to carry out on my bug was needed. It
was a reply post from a fellow Beetle owner in The Bath Aircooled Forum. I had
asked about another engine issue and posted a pic of the area I needed help with.

The guy was able to help me with the original query but did point out that he had
spotted, from my photo, that I had the wrong type of fixing clips attached to my
fuel hose. He said that there may be damage to the line and check it as any
damage could could cause a fuel leak and an engine fire!

As you can see from this picture, the hose is very badly worn away.

Once you have bought your fuel hose, make sure you have the correct type of fuel hose clip. The pic above shows you.

I found the best way to replace the fuel hose is to remove the air filter first so you have plenty of room to work. if
you don't know how to remove the air filter, click here to see.

Next loosen the clip from the hose and pull it all away from the Carburetor.

Next loosen the clip from the other end of the hose and pull it upwards and away from the fuel filter.

Whilst I was busy taking the old fuel hose from the Carburetor to the fuel filter, I also noticed the wrong clip on the
lower fuel hose from the bottom of the fuel filter to the fuel pump so I decided to change that hose as well. I'm
glad I did as the end of this hose was damaged also due to the wrong clip.

Just repeat the same sequence as the above fuel hose, loosen the clips and pull off the tube.

The change over is just a simple case of fitting the new hose on and tightening the new clip.
